Upstream Demand Uncertainty in a Two-Echelon Supply Chain: Comparative Statics via Stochastic Orderings

چکیده
We revisit the classic Cournot model and extend it to a twoechelon supply chain with an upstream supplier who operates under demand uncertainty and multiple downstream retailers who compete over quantity. The supplier’s belief about retail demand is modeled via a continuous probability distribution function F . If F has the decreasing generalized mean residual life (DGMRL) property, then the supplier’s optimal pricing policy exists and is the unique fixed point of the mean residual life (MRL) function. This closed form representation of the supplier’s equilibrium strategy facilitates a transparent comparative statics and sensitivity analysis. We utilize the theory of stochastic orderings to study the response of the equilibrium fundamentals – wholesale price, retail price and quantity – to different demand distribution parameters. We examine supply chain performance, in terms of the distribution of profits, supply chain efficiency, in terms of the Price of Anarchy, and complement our findings with numerical results.

A Stochastic Programming Approach for a Multi-Site Supply Chain Planning in Textile and Apparel Industry under Demand Uncertainty
In this study, a new stochastic model is proposed to deal with a multi-product, multi-period, multi-stage, multi-site production and transportation supply chain planning problem under demand uncertainty. A two-stage stochastic linear programming approach is used to maximize the expected profit. Decisions such as the production amount, the inventory level of finished and semi-finished product, t...

With the trend of globalization, supply chains are increasingly extended and uncertainties associated with material flow along the supply chain have become a major challenge in the planning process. In this study, we examine the effect of supply uncertainty on dynamically managing a two-stage supply chain under both centralized and decentralized controls. Specifically, the downstream faces dema...
متن کاملA two-level discount model for coordinating a decentralized supply chain considering stochastic price-sensitive demand
In this paper, a discount model is proposed to coordinate pricing and ordering decisions in a two-echelon supply chain (SC). Demand is stochastic and price sensitive while lead times are fixed. Decentralized decision making where downstream decides on selling price and order size is investigated. Then, joint pricing and ordering decisions are extracted where both members act as a single entity ...

Many supply chain problems involve optimization of various conflicting objectives. This paper formulates a green supply chain network throughout a two-stage mixed integer linear problem with uncertain demand and stochastic environmental respects level. The first objective function of the proposed model considers minimization of supply chain costs while the second objective function minimizes CO...

This paper investigates the integration of strategic and tactical decisions in the supply chain network design (SCND) considering assembly line balancing (ALB) under demand uncertainty. Due to the decentralized decisions, a novel bi-level stochastic programming (BLSP) model has been developed in which SCND problem has been considered in the upper-level model, while the lower-level model contain...
